Fort Amador is a former United States Army post located on the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, in Panama City, Panama. It was constructed in the early 1900s and was named after Army Engineer Colonel John R. Amador. The fort was an important military site during World War II and the Panama Canal Zone era.
During World War II, Fort Amador was used as a base for the defense of the Panama Canal, and it was equipped with anti-aircraft guns, searchlights, and machine gun emplacements. After the war, the fort was used as a communication center for the U.S. military and was also home to a recreational center for American soldiers stationed in Panama.
Since the U.S. military withdrawal from Panama in 1999, Fort Amador has been converted into a commercial and residential area. Today, it houses several hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, including the Amador Causeway, which is a popular tourist destination that offers breathtaking views of the Panama Bay and the Panama Canal. The area has become a major entertainment and leisure destination for locals and tourists alike.
